PLACES OF INTEREST

DNYANGANGA SANCTUARY (8 KM):

There are two lakes within the 205 sq. km sanctuary. A wide variety of wild animals and birds are spotted here. About 150 species of birds are here. The ideal time to visit the sanctuary is from January to June.

EXCURSIONS

AMBER LAKE:

Also known as Little Lonar, it is located about a kilometre away from the Lonar Crater. It is said to have been created by the impact of a smaller piece of a meteor, which split from the main body. A Hanuman Temple, with an idol of Hanuman in a reclining pose, is located on its banks.

LONAR LAKE (90 KM SOUTH):

The third largest natural salt-water lake in the world is located near Lonar. It is renowned for the Lonar Crater, a bowl shaped depression formed 50,000 years ago by the impact of a huge meteorite. It is the largest and oldest meteoric crater in the world. The lake has enough fauna surrounding it making it a serene and scenic spot. There are several temples near the lake like Yadav Temples, also known as Hemadpanti Temples named after Hemadri, Ramgaya, Vishnu Mandir, Wagh Mahadev, Mora Mahadev/Munglyacha Mandir and Goddess Kamalaja Devia are the other temples inside the crater. The best time of the year to visit this place is between August and February.

SINDKHED RAJA (105 KM):

It is a small place located on the State Highway 183, in Buldhana District of Maharashtra. It is renowned as the birthplace of Rajmata Jijabai, the mother of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Kalkat, Rang Mahal, Lakhuji Jadhav Memorial, Palace of Lakhuji jadhav and ancient temples of Neelkan- theshwar and Rameshwar are the major attractions of this place.

SHEGAON:


A municipal town, it is renowned for the Samadhi of Shri Gajanan Maharaja. There is also a temple of Lord Ram, situated in the premises of the shrine. Ramnavami is celebrated here in the month of Chaitra (April), which attracts thousands of people here.
