A NEWLY FORMED DISTRICT, HINGOLI WAS RECENTLY BIFURCATED
FROM THE OLD PARBHANI DISTRICT. THE DISTRICT IS KNOWN FOR ITS PRODUCTION OF
JOWAR AND COTTON AND ITS FOLK ARTS NAMELY GONDHAL, SHAHIRI AND BHARUD.
EXCURSIONS
AUNDHA NAGNATH:
A famous Shiva temple, it is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas
in India. It is said that Dharmraj (Yudishtira), one of the Pandava brothers,
built this temple during his Agyant Baas (exile). This beautiful temple has
been built in an area of 60,000 sq. ft. The architecture and exquisite carvings
reflect the Hemadpanthi Style. A large number of people from far and near
assemble here during Slrivaratri and Vijayadashmi.
SHIRADASHAHAPUR:
Bhagwan Shantinath jinalaya is at renowned Jain temple
situated in this village. This marble temple is famous for its attractive idol
of the Jain Tirthankar, Shantinath. The idol is in standing posture. The temple
also has an idol of another, Jain Tirthankar, Parshwanath. Mallinath’s Temple
is a nearby attraction. This temple has 4 ft. high idol of Mallinath in
padmasana posture. A white~coloured idol of the last jain Tirthankar Mahavir is
placed in the upper part of this temple.
NARSI (16 KM):
A religious place located on the Hingoli-Oundha road, this
village houses the shrine of saint Namdeo.
The shrine is thronged by thousands of devotees,
particularly during Ashadhi Kartiki Ekadasi.
